Dear Colleagues:

There is a worldwide paradigm shift taking place. Health care is shifting from the management of acute illness to wellness and prevention of communicable disease and the management of long-term chronic disease. The 2002 United Nations Report of the Second World Assembly on Aging, and the World Health Organization’s report Active Aging: A Policy Framework, point to the critical need to address the challenges resulting from rapidly aging populations worldwide. These changing global demographics require innovative and cost-effective strategies to meet the challenges of caring for persons with chronic, non-communicable illnesses at home. In addition, emerging and re-emerging pathogens and diseases such as AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and vector-borne illnesses demand prevention and wellness programs that are often best answered with a home care solution.

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) 22nd Annual Meeting, and the 3rd World Congress on Homecare and Hospice and NAHC/World HOMECARExpo, is the global forum for exchange of ideas, innovations in care delivery, and advances that bring new technologies and treatments to care for persons at home. Our global village necessitates sharing of ideas and resources worldwide to bring real solutions to the local community.

The theme for the 2003 Annual Meeting/World Congress is "Home Care & Hospice, the Heart & Soul of Health Care in America & Around the World." The sub-theme is Reinventing Home Care & Hospice through development of new technology and other service innovations that are broadening the scope of home care and hospice. Some 181 educational programs have been selected for inclusion at this historic event.

We invite you to join thousands of your colleagues to share your knowledge and expertise, to explore solutions for caring for people at home, and to deepen your commitment to this noble endeavor. Journey with us as we explore how home care and hospice is at the very heart and soul of health care services around the world.

Warmest regards,
